Grammar Review
News headline:
Louis Van Gaal Leaves Manchester United (the Reds)
Grammar tip: The news headlines never use the past simple form, but always use the present simple form instead to keep the news fresh, which differ from subheadlines and stories. The above headline is an example.
News story:
Executive vice chairman Ed Woodward said: "I would like to thank Louis and his staff for their excellent work in the past two years culminating in winning a record-equalling 12th FA Cup for the club (and securing him a title in four different countries). He has behaved with great professionalism and dignity throughout his time here. He leaves us with a legacy of having given several young players the confidence to show their ability on the highest stage. Everyone at the club wishes him all the best in the future."

Executive vice chairman is a higher rank of Ed Woodward. When you want to mention Sb's rank, you can start writing his/her ranking name fully before his/her real name without any of articles in front of it.

: (Colon) is a very useful punctuation mark which, in this case, means having more information to add or inform Sb, aimed at giving a complete understanding of what Sb has said or talked about.

" (Quotation mark)
Quotation marks, according to the news story above, are used at the beginning and end of a phrase to show that it is being written as it was originally said or written by Sb.
For example,
Executive vice chairman Ed Woodward said: "I would like to thank Louis and his staff for their excellent work in the past two years culminating in winning a record-equalling 12th FA Cup for the club (and securing him a title in four different countries). He has behaved with great professionalism and dignity throughout his time here. He leaves us with a legacy of having given several young players the confidence to show their ability on the highest stage. Everyone at the club wishes him all the best in the future."

- To thank Sb for Sth or doing Sth
I would like to thank Louis and his staff for their excellent work in the past two years culminating in winning a record-equalling 12th FA Cup for the club (and securing him a title in four different countries).
- Sb behaves with Sth ( to do something professionally with the aim of getting things done)
For example,
He has behaved with great professionalism and dignity throughout his time here.
This sentence uses the form of present perfect tense (has/have+v.3) so that the verb of the sentence must be converted into the past participle form (V.3 = behaved with Sth) as the sample sentence above.

The term "Legacy" used in the above news story means the manager's capability of bringing out the best in young players' ability by giving them chances.

- To wish Sb Sth
Everyone at the club wishes him (Sb) all the best in the future (Sth)."
